No this isn’t about Ned Kelly, Cathy Freeman, John Eales… or any other famous Aussie. This is about a national icon, beer.

Once upon a time Coopers was an insignificant brewery, just a passaway South Australian brewery with a small market share. Fair enough, it had to compete with the likes of Tooheys, Hahn, Swan & Carlton – all hugely successful Australian breweries. Now the times have changed, in 2012 Coopers – in its 150th year – will become the biggest 100% Australian owned brewery.

Fosters and Lion Nathan have both decided that they’d prefer money over values and are now 100% owned overseas (Japan & England). Will Coopers cash in on this? They should! I for one will not be drinking Australian beer that has been made by English or Japs! I trust Aussies to make Aussie beer, no one else. Coopers is the last great Australian brewery, and shall henceforth be the only major beer brand I will ever buy again. Lion Nathan and Fosters will not receive a single cent! I can only hope others have similar mindsets.

The following beer brands will no longer appear in my budget… (The ones in bold are really dissapointing)
